Close to home but a world away, in the rolling hills of Tennessee lies the tiny town of Bell Buckle. On the third Saturday in June, this historic Victorian village hosts a festival that celebrates the original Southern fast food – an ice cold RC Cola and a fresh MoonPie. This grand old-fashioned celebration invites snack lovers from all over the country to enjoy a jam packed day of fun for the whole family. Visitors stream into the downtown Square where they’ll find plenty of music, clogging dancers, wacky contests, Moon Pie games and a colorful parade. Shop the wide selection of arts and crafts booths and check out the food vendors for good ol’ Southern favorites like Tennessee smoked barbecue, hand squeezed lemonade and deep fried Moon Pies.
The day begins bright and early with the RC Moon Pie 10 Mile Run, with close to 1000 runners ranging in age from 10 to over 70 taking part in the beautifully scenic but very challenging course. This challenging certified 10 miler is a sure fire way to earn bragging rights and the right to eat! So start your day off with a great run – all preregistered runners get a tech race shirt and a complimentary breakfast with biscuits and fruit and of course, RC’s and MoonPies!
After the runners are cheered in, the festivities begin, culminating with the crowning of this year’s Moon Pie Queen, Channel 5’s award-winning news anchor Vicki Yates and RC Cola King, Channel 5’s chief meteorologist Ron Howes. The coronation will be followed by the cutting of the World’s Largest Moon Pie—a free dessert for all!
So come join us on Saturday, June 20 for this one-of-a-kind celebration for three uniquely Southern treasures: RC Colas, Moon Pies and Historic Bell Buckle, Tennessee.
