Actor Ben Jones, who is best remembered for his role “Cooter” in the long-running TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” will be the keynote speaker at a special event hosted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Pigeon Forge on Sept. 23.
Jones was a central character in the long running series and entered politics after the series ended in 1985. Jones was elected to the United States Congress where he served two terms representing Georgia from 1989-93. He was defeated in his re-election bid by Newt Gingrich.
Since then Jones has returned to acting and has opened three Cooter’s stores in Gatlinburg, Nashville and Sperryville, Virginia. Jones is a long-time member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and serves as their Chief of Heritage Operations.
Jones will be speaking at the Sons of Confederate Veterans James Huff Camp meeting on Sept 23rd. This special event will be held at the Cyrus Family Theater in Pigeon Forge on the Parkway. Jones will speak at 6 p.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to all that attend.
Tickets for the event are just $15 each. The ticket price includes admission and dinner. Jones will be speaking about southern heritage and the role of the SCV in preserving the heritage. Jones, like many other members of the SCV, has long maintained the politically correct version of history relating to the Civil War is flawed. Jones will also discuss the bashing of southern culture by network TV in the form of such series “Party Down South.”
Immediately after Jones’ presentation the theater will host the Van Dells in concert at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Van Dells is $30. Anyone that attends the SCV event will be given a $5 discount to the Van Dells show.
