And they’re off! More than 150 runners took part in the event to raise money for local children’s charities.

More than 150 runners waited patiently at the starting gate outside the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge for the annual running of the Kickin’ Chicken 5K Run Fun Walk Saturday Morning. The annual event serves as a fundraiser for the Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center for Cocke, Jefferson, Sevier and Grainger Counties.

The runners converged on the Parkway in front of the Comedy Barn preparing for the start of the race. Danny Devaney, a comedian with the popular theater stood outside walking on stilts that made him appear to be 10-feet-tall while holding a large toy shotgun.

The race started promptly at 8 a.m. As the runners bolted from the gate Devaney, in comic fashion shouted  “Don’t run!” Some confused runners stopped and turned their attention to Devaney who retorted ”Get off my land!” The confused runners laughed and turned to join the race.

Inside the Comedy Barn numerous baskets filled with a cornucopia of goodies donated by numerous local businesses lined several tables. The items were intended for a silent auction. Bidders perused the baskets filled with tickets to local attractions and other items.

The monies collected from the entry fees of the runners and from the silent auction were all donated to charity.
