The Comedy Barn Theater in Pigeon Forge, is sponsoring Sevier County High School Students to the 5A TSSAA state finals football game Friday night, Dec. 4, against Independence High School of Thompson’s Station, Tenn.  The finals will be played at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn., for the state title.  (The Sevier County Smoky Bears won last Friday night over Rhea County, 42 to 28.)

Any Sevier County High School student is eligible to go to the state title game with a generous donation from The Comedy Barn Theater and he or she will receive free TSSAA Finals game tickets (worth $12 per ticket) if they agree to do two hours of community service around the school.  The community service can count toward the Tennessee Promise community service component as well.  (The service project component was the idea of Sevier County High School student Kelly Lambert.)  The students will be transported on one of two free school buses to the game.  The Comedy Barn Theater is donating money toward school staff to chaperone the trip, money to pay the bus drivers and the tickets to the TSSAA Finals game. The Sevier County High School is providing the bus transportation.  There is room for approximately 96 students on the bus. This is a total savings of $22 a student for the whole event.  The students will need to pay for their own dinners.

“David Fee and I are absolutely thrilled and excited that the Sevier County Smoky Bears are going to the state championship,” said Jim Hedrick of Fee/Hedrick Entertainment.  “ The Comedy Barn Theater is thrilled to support our local Sevier County High School students, as we know the lessons of football will help them in their development. We can’t be more proud of this local team representing Sevier County.”

Toby Ward, principal of Sevier County High School said, “We are glad The Comedy Barn Theater is sponsoring this event so that students who would not normally go to the game can go and cheer on the Bears.  The students will be picking up litter around the school and raking leaves, weather permitting, with plastic gloves and trash bags, today and tomorrow, to do the community service component of this trip.  This will help the school out so we don’t have to pay someone to do this.  Our team slogan is Faith, Fight and Finish. Time for the Bears to Finish! Go Bears!”

Sevier County High School will be hosting a pep rally Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the school and the football team buses will leave the school parking lot for the game at 11:00 a.m. Student buses will leave between 2 and 2:30 p.m.  The student body will be released to line up on both of the school driveway to watch the two football team buses leave. Parents are encouraged to line up in front of the school to wave the team goodbye as well.  Students must make a reservation for the bus between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. this week with the school office.
