Hundreds of runners dressed as Santa Claus, the Grinch, elves and Mrs. Claus lined the street next to the Wilderness Resort Sunday morning for the annual Santa Run. The annual event is a 5K run in which runners dress as Santa Claus and other Christmas characters and take to the highway running from the Wilderness down Highway 66 and back.
Christmas music filled the air Sunday morning as runners made final preparations for the run. On either side of the road large inflatables depicting Santa and a reindeer hovered above the crowd.
At 7:30 a.m. the race was on and hundreds of Santas ran along the highway creating a curious sight for tourists arriving in town for the first time. Some runners chose to don the beard, a red shirt, and Santa cap while some chose to dress to the nines wearing a complete Santa outfit. An occasional Grinch and reindeer could be seen in the mix making their way along the route.
