Danny Devaney, a comedian at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge, became the first person in history to successfully escape from a straitjacket while crossing a zip line Friday at Foxfire Mountain Adventure Park in Sevierville.
Devaney was first outfitted with a harness and then a straitjacket was strapped on covering the harness. He was driven to the top of the mountain where he ascended three flights of stairs to a platform leading to the Goliath Zip Line, the highest zip line in South that hovers 475 feet above the ground.A guide crossed the line first followed by a videographer. Devaney’s harness was attached to a trolley and within seconds he stepped off the platform and began a quick ride over a 2,200 foot line at speeds of 55-60 mph. The line started at 475 feet and gradually descended to a height of 350 feet before ascending once again to 475 feet.
As Devaney was careening across the zip line he began wriggling out of the restraint device slipping his arms over his head then unbuckling the buckles that restrained him. Within seconds he slid the jacket over his head before landing on the far platform.
