Murder in Mississippi, part two

To family and many friends, Jessica Chambers didn’t have a particularly active love life. Her parents told the media she had no boyfriend or current love interest during the days initially after the murder. There is now an increasing amount of evidence to suggest that claim is not true.

On December 7, a handwritten note from Chambers was made public. The note was previously in the possession of Kelsey Arendal, a friend of Jessica’s. In the note Jessica references a recent breakup with a boyfriend. On that same day, a photo was posted on Facebook depicting Chambers kissing a man named Bryan Rudd. The person who posted the picture was Rudd’s mother, Theresa Fleming. Notably, the picture was posted after the murder was made public. Rudd was cleared as a suspect by police, and Fleming divulged that she released the photo in remembrance of Jessica.

Then there is the mysterious case of Ali Alsanai. Besides the killer, Alsanai was the last person to see Chambers alive. Alsanai is 19 years old, yet is the owner of the gas station where Jessica was last seen. A 19 year old owning a gas station is not impossible, but is no doubt unusual. More unusual is the fact that 53 seconds of the security footage at the gas station simply isn’t there. Leaked photos from Alsani’s Facebook stage show him brandishing weapons and thousands of dollars in cash as far back as 2011 when he was 16 years old.

What’s more unusual is the fact that this particular gas station was a well known hub of gang activity. In Panola, a gang known as “The Black Squad” frequently congregated at the exact location Chambers was last seen alive, and did so regularly. What’s more, Alsani is seen in pictures with gang affiliated individuals outside the gas station. The release of this information has led to death threats against Alsani.

But in the Jessica Chambers murder case, the twists continued to come. Shortly after the crime, an additional witness named Charlotte Wilkerson reports seeing Jessica at a party the night of the murder, although the timeframe remains sketchy. There has been no confirmation of this account.

Then a bombshell hit the investigation. Jessica Chamber’s father revealed that she had been in previously abusive relationships and had lived in a battered women’s shelter up until two months before her murder. Police investigators also uncovered security footage from the same gas station a week earlier. In the clip, Jessica is shown in a confrontation with an unidentified male who appears to chokes her.

All we know about this case is that a killer is still on the loose. We know there are plenty of strange aspects to the case, but lack the thread that ties them together. In addition to the $11,000 reward being offered by the District Attorney, private groups have offered an additional $18,000 reward for any information that will lead to an arrest in this case.
