The Tennessee Smokies announced their 2016 game schedule in conjunction with the Southern League on Wednesday, August 5 2015 with the team slated to begin the 2016 season on Thursday, April 7 at home at Smokies Stadium, facing off against the Mobile BayBears. Game times, along with promotions for the 2016 campaign, will be announced on later dates.
The club will play a total of 70 games at Smokies Stadium as part of a 140-game Southern League season, lasting 152 days between Opening Day on Thursday, April 7 and their season finale on Monday, September 5 at Montgomery. The home slate includes ten games in the month of April, as well as 16 in May, 14 in June, 15 in July and 15 in August. The 2016 version of the league’s All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at Trustmark Park in Pearl, the home ballpark of the Mississippi Braves and will split the first and second halves of the season.
Tennessee will face off against their North Division rival Chattanooga Lookouts in 20 matchups next year and will host the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A affiliate between June 10–14 and July 9–13. The two clubs will also meet at AT&T Field in Chattanooga for a pair of five-game sets between May 25-29 and July 26-30. The club is also scheduled to match up with the there fellow division rival in the Jackson Generals on 20 occasions, including home meetings in Sevierville between May 31–June 4 and July 4–8.
The Smokies will also host two ten-game home stands in 2016, the second of which will begin with a July 4 contest against the Generals to begin a five-game series, and last through July 13 by concluding with a five-game set against the Lookouts. The team will also play ten games at home between May 14–23 with five-game series versus the Birmingham Barons and Biloxi Shuckers. Along with an Independence Day contest, the first time the club will play at home on that date since the 2010 campaign, while Tennessee will also play at Smokies Stadium on Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 8.
