Tennessee VS Virginia Tech highlights events
BRISTOL (press release)—Hot on the heels of announcing the April 2016 debut of Colossus, the world’s largest outdoor, center-hung video display, Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) is presenting more upcoming dates for sports fans to engrave on their calendars.
“We have a lot of energy and momentum and expect to carry that into 2016. We’re preparing for one of our biggest seasons in years,” said Jerry Caldwell, executive vice president and general manager for BMS. “With the unveiling of Colossus, we’ll kick things off in style for the Food City 500 race weekend April 15 – 17, when the NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series events roll into town.”
Back again on Father’s Day weekend, the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals will rumble and roar down the drag strip June 17 – 19, 2016. “We’ve seen this event continue to grow over the last five or six years, and with a couple of Colossus’ massive screens to enhance the experience, it will be a weekend dads won’t want to miss,” said Caldwell.
“The date for our legendary August Night Race has been a topic of conversation for weeks, and we’re thrilled to say we’ll be welcoming guests from around the world August 17, 19-20. Once the checkered flag falls on Saturday, we’ll have about two and half weeks to turn our iconic short track into a premium college football field.”
The hotly anticipated Battle at Bristol, a borderline showdown between rivals the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech will take place on Sept. 10, 2016. “We expect this game to shatter the existing record for attendance at a college football game,” said Caldwell. “All the Vols and Hokie fans will bring spirit to the Last Great Coliseum like we’ve never seen before. 2016 is going to be an amazing year and I hope you plan to join us.”
