The Smokies defeated the Pensacola Wahoos in an impressive 4-1 victory Sunday at Smokies Stadium. They took an early lead when Addison Russell hit a home run battling in an RBI making the score 2-0.

The Smokies and Wahoos remained scoreless throughout the fifth inning. During the sixth inning, Lars Anderson hit a double to right field to bat in Albert Almora and Russell giving the Smokies a commanding lead of 4-0.

The Wahoos showed some signs of life in the ninth inning when Rossmel Perez batted in Yorman Perez making the score 4-1. Any hopes the Wahoos had at making a comeback were dashed when a double play in the ninth ended the game.

Smokies pitcher Pierce Johnson retired 17 of 20 batters in the first six innings improving the Smokies record to 22-22.
